Detail-Oriented Protection: Why the Rhino Shield Application Process is Worth the Wait

Kaspars Melderis • January 5, 2026
In a city known for its stunning architecture—from historic wrap-around porches to iconic “Chicago corners”—finding the right team to protect your home is essential. We recently had the pleasure of working with I.P. in Chicago, whose review highlights the dedication and meticulous care our crews put into every project:

“It was quite the process, but so worth the end result! Our paint team did a stellar job of masking, replacing soggy cedar, and caulking! There was a lot of masking on our house, with the long windows, Chicago corners, and the wrap-around porch! It is odd not being able to see out your windows, or use all your doors, so prepare yourself, but the end result is gorgeous! Lines are crisp everywhere, and colors are striking! Kudo’s to the crew who worked for 2 weeks, fighting windy weather and cooler temps to finish! We are very pleased!”

Trusting the Application Process

As I.P. mentioned, applying Rhino Shield is “quite the process.” Unlike traditional painting that might take a few days of quick spraying, our application process involves a rigorous 12-step system designed to ensure the coating lasts for 25 years.

This comprehensive approach includes several critical stages that were vital for I.P.’s Chicago home:

  • Thorough Inspection & Wood Replacement: Our crews identify and replace “soggy cedar” or rotted wood to ensure the coating is applied to a structurally sound surface.
  • Meticulous Caulking: We seal joints and cracks with high-quality caulk to prevent moisture intrusion, a step I.P. specifically praised for its precision.
  • Extensive Masking: To achieve those “crisp lines,” we carefully mask off windows, doors, and trim. While this may mean “not being able to see out your windows” for a short time, it is necessary to protect every non-coated surface.
  • Surface Preparation: This includes power washing to remove debris and scraping or sanding to create a smooth, bondable surface for the primer.
  • Proprietary Priming: We apply our unique Adhesive Primer, which creates a permanent bond between the substrate and the finish coat.

Why We Are the Preferred House Painters in Chicago

Chicago weather is notoriously difficult on exteriors. Windy conditions and cooler temperatures can ruin a standard paint job, but our experienced house painters are trained to work through these local challenges. By choosing Rhino Shield , you are investing in a team that understands the specific needs of Chicago architecture, from long windows to intricate porch details.

The “striking colors” and “gorgeous end result” described by I.P. are the result of combining a superior ceramic product with a team that refuses to cut corners. When we finish, your home isn’t just painted; it is armored for the next quarter-century.
